Biography
As Bonnie Lee, I have had a long and successful sculpting career. It has had a commercial side: my art is displayed in over 100,000 homes worldwide. And it has had a serious side: my art has been featured in numerous museums and has been the cover piece for many fine-art catalogs. My one-woman shows have been a delight both to me and to their curators.
Through the years, my sculptures have evolved, of course, with a movement towards the use of oil and acrylics and even watercolor to express the sculptures' emotional tones - their passions if you will. Throughout this evolution, though, there has always been my signature delight in colors - vivid and expressive, interactive and exciting.
Some would say that I should make my colors quieter than they are. I just can't do that. My colors must be bold. They may be complex and intricate and even subtle, but they must be bold. I love the vibrancy of colors on canvas and clay, their purity, their sense of mystery.
While my use of colors and clay is unplanned, I do a lot of reading and research before I ever put brush to canvas or hands to clay. The research stays in the background, undoubtedly guiding me, but not consciously. At some point in my process, the colors snd the forms and the research all come together and, like a jigsaw puzzle, the piece comes alive.
Hours of labor remain as I clean and add details, but these are happy hours. My sculpture has developed a soul and my own soul feeds on it.
